BRIEF NOTE

Honeywell Quality Circles

Part of a Growing American Trend

Pages 97-102 | Published online: 26 Oct 2008

Abstract

Since Honeywell and Lockheed first introduced the circles in America, more and more corporations have developed similar programs. Companies that have initiated the Quality Circle concept include Bethlehem Steel, Ford, Westinghouse, Solar Turbine, Hughes Aircraft, General Electric, Boeing, Martin Marietta, RCA, Control Data and General Motors as well as over 500 other companies. The fact that both management and salaried employees are enthusiastic about the growing new concept shows through figures compiled by Honeywell's Human Resource Development Department. There were 40 teams in 1979, 103 in 1980 and over 300 in 1981. Future growth people most directly involved at Honeywell project the number teams to reach 600 in the next two years. The total number of teams is expected to stabilize eventually at around 1,000 teams, with a progressively larger number of them drawn from secretarial and support personnel.
