Abstract

The development of an innovations award program in a public utility company is described. The program was designed to generate innovative ideas that were implementable and could bring about significant improvements in the company's operations or have significant impact on the company's profitability. The various factors which must be considered when an Organizational Behavior ' Manager (OBM) is selecting components of an innovations award program is described. The process required to operationally define and then evaluate innovative responses within a corporate environmcnt is described. Analysis of the program described indicated that quantity of innovative ideas generated by the new program exceeded those generated by the company's previous program while these levels were less than levels generated by comparable programs in other public utilities.
