Abstract

This overview outlines ethical issues in cancer diagnosis, treatment, and research. The first section is devoted to ethical conflicts that arise around the diagnosis and registration of oncology patients, including information-sharing problems, and difficulties imposed by uncertainty. The second section focuses on quality of life issues, especially in determining the proper moral limits of treatment. The third section discusses ethical problems facing clinical researchers. In the final section issues generated by government testing and regulation of carcinogens are introduced.
