Abstract

A recovery model is described, representing four dimensions of human adjustment following breast cancer diagnosis and treatment: cognitive, affective, physical, and functional. Each adjustment is depicted by structure, process, and outcome variables in dynamic interaction. The recovery model serves as a conceptual and assessment framework for an experimental study testing the rehabilitative effect of a comprehensive support program for women with newly diagnosed breast cancer at the University of California and Children's Hospital in San Francisco.
