Family Treatment of Older Adults Who Misuse Alcohol

Abstract

Older adults abuse and misuse alcohol at a high rate. The abuse and misuse often goes undetected because mental health providers and caretakers or significant others fail to acknowledge that it exists. Using the strengths perspective, this article assists practitioners in their work with the families, informal and formal supports, and social and health services, to help with the misuses of alcohol. In using a strengths perspectives, clients focus on their strengths and adaptive capacities.
