Abstract
This study examined the relative contribution of physical conditions, functional health, and financial adequacy to mental health status of the Chinese older adults in Hong Kong. A total of 554 older adults aged 70 and over (mean age = 77.0, SD =5.4) participated in the present study. The data were collected through individual interviews with the use of a standardized questionnaire. Results of the data analysis showed that physical health condition was the most significant contributory factor to depressive symptoms and life satisfaction. Family network was more important than friend network in the maintenance of mental health status of the Chinese older adults.
