Towards a New Era in Aging and Social Work

Pages 1-11 | Published online: 11 Oct 2008

Abstract

Population aging presents an increasingly global community with one of the greatest social and health policy challenges in the emergent century. Despite this, the social work profession has been slow to demonstrate discernible interest in addressing the needs of growing numbers of older Americans and their families. If social work can embrace the opportunity which aging and other converging forces present, as have a cadre of social work educators, the profession may be able to position itself for leadership in the decades ahead.
