Abstract
Using 1987-88 National Survey of Families and Households data, this study examined the relationship between having a failed marital reconciliation in the first marriage and remarrying. Unsuccessful marital reconciliations are not uncommon since about one-third of the divorced women become divorced after attempting at least one marital reconciliation. The results suggest that attempting several reconciliations in the first marriage is associated with an increased probability of marrying for the second time. The implications of the results are discussed.
