Abstract
The present study examined hopes and worries about marriage, following a parental divorce, among a sample of 238 adolescents (age 11-17). The current study improves upon existing research by obtaining a more representative sample of adolescents who had experienced a parental divorce within the past two years, utilizing open-ended questions, and focusing on adolescents' attitudes about their own future marriages (rather than marriage in general). Findings partially support past research indicating that children of divorce may be anxious about their own marital future-but also indicate that there are many hopes for marriage, and that there may be considerable diversity within this population.
