Information Policy and Libraries in the European Community

Abstract

In the first section an attempt is made to identify what may be called an EC information policy formulated as such and translated into a number of programmes and activities mainly by the Commission. A following section surveys some EC activities specifically directed at libraries. Some initiatives in support of library promotion and cooperation within the wider European framework (i.e., not originated by EC institutions) are also mentioned. Some personal observations follow these descriptive sections. Finally some practical suggestions for accessing EC information are given in annex.
