Abstract

Online searching of bibliographic databases has become on essential adjunct to reference service in academic libraries. The question of financing this service is explored, focusing on factors of costs user fees. The philosophy expressed is that online searching should have dual support-the library budget and the user fee. Experience with this service at New York University is described.
