ACQUIRING TECHNICAL REPORTS IN THE SPECIAL LIBRARY:

ANOTHER PACKAGE FOR INFORMATION TRANSFER

Pages 45-67 | Published online: 18 Oct 2008

Abstract

Technical reports literature has assumed new dimensions as a result of advances in computer technology and the increasing amount of literature searching done on massive databases. An awareness of this change is necessary for librarians/information specialists to respond effectively to these demands. Processing and maintenance of technical reports; their availability; current technology and trends in document delivery relative to online retrievla, networks, vendors and expediting services; deposit accounts and the organization's environment must be evaluated. The problems associated with the use of these services, such as rush handling, automatic distribution, and paper copy and microfiche formats, must also be considered to allow for proper planning in meeting the user's informational requirements.
