Weeding Them and Holding Them

Pages 55-67 | Published online: 18 Oct 2008

Abstract

There are several factors to be considered before discontinuing library holdings to non-English journals that are available also as translation journals. This paper demonstrates methods of collecting information about these factors. The author has discussed patron needs, subscription costs, citation patterns, and the availability of alternative translations. He has collected sample data about other factors: time lag and physical differences between the original and translation journals, coverage by indexing and abstracting services, and library holdings of the journals.
