Abstract
In recent years libraries have used microcomputers in increasing numbers for a variety of applications. This paper investigates the current microcomputer scene in science and technology libraries by highlighting specific examples of current applications, taken from the literature and from conversations with librarians. The author's survey of 267 libraries yielded additional information on hardware, software, patron access, problems encountered, sources for selection of commercial hardware, and reasons for the nonuse of micros. Results point to rapidly increasing utilization of micros in several areas and suggest that the major problems faced by sci-tech librarians are inadequate training, lack of standardization, and insufficient numebers of machines.
