Abstract
A healthy industry has evolved around the application of lasers in materials processing, communications, medicine, information storage and retrieval, graphic arts, scientific research and development, metrology, remote sensing and even entertainment. These applications have resulted from twenty-five years of research and development recorded in an ever-increasing body of scientific and technical literature, which is discussed in this collection development paper. Sections include subject background and future developments, and lists of periodicals, research reports, monographs, and monographic series, published bibliographies, abstracting, indexing and current awareness services, as well as an inventory of some laboratories currently pursuing research and applications.
