Abstract

Science librarians at the University of Rochester are planning a user-oriented science and engineering library that combines traditional and electronic features. Consultation with users, library staff, and technical experts was important in enabling the planners to achieve their objectives. The article describes decisions the planners made on such matters as library layout, electrical and telecommunications systems, lighting, microcomputers, and reference and circulation/reserve desks.
