Abstract
A discussion is given of the Acquisition of Sponsoring Editor's role in the handling of contemporary scientific and technical information, including the background and training that are desirable, whether it be subject matter expertise or a publishing background. The contemporary situation is described relative to scientific and technical data, print, monographs, series volumes, encyclopedias and electronic disks, and databases. Other topics include: the creative writer of fiction and the scientist/technologist as writer, the computer revolution evaluated in traditional print publishing, the importance and desirability of the profession of publishing, the varied skills that are utilized in the handling of scientific and technical information today.
