Pages 57-67 | Published online: 18 Oct 2008

Abstract

Points out dozens of examples of government agencies whose records in the National Archives pertain to some aspect of science or technology. The remainder of the paper describes in detail all the many types of documents connected with the development of atomic weapons, dating back to 1939, when scientists alerted President Roosevelt to the danger of German creation of an atomic weapon. The paper carries through to the use of the weapons in Japan and to the famous spy trial in 1950.
