Re-Inventing the Library

Pages 77-87 | Published online: 18 Oct 2008

Abstract

Basic assumptions of the role and function of library facilities at AT&T are being challenged in light of diverse environmental factors, including (1) the reality of electronic information access and delivery; (2) geographic dispersion of library service customers; (3) the high costs of providing information services and products through library facilities; and (4) greater sensitivity among employees to the "cost" of onsite browsing and access. The AT&T Library Network has been re-inventing its library facilities, emphasizing their role in delivering information services and products and promoting their use by local customer groups.
