Pages 89-96 | Published online: 18 Oct 2008

Abstract

Results of a nation-wide survey of academic branch chemistry libraries show that the majority issue keys to non-library personnel to provide access to their collections during hours the library is cloased. These same libraries report losses to their collections that are average to excessive. Libraries that do not allow after hours access report losses minimal to average. Libraries that no longer issue keys to non-library personnel for after hours access said they they were able to change the policy based on high collection losses.
