Abstract
This article discusses the results of a survey tracing the evolution of the physical and administrative structures of science and technology libraries in 75 ARL institutions in the United States and Canada from the 1940's through the 1980's. The physical structure of science and technology libraries is compared on the basis of private vs. public universities, age, size, and geographic location.
