Abstract
Patents are quickly being recognized as a powerful source of information in both the academic and business worlds. Perhaps the greatest indicator of the increased interest regarding patents can be seen in the recent appearance of a number of compact disk products dealing with patent information. This article will review four of those systems: OG/PLUS by Research Publications, Inc., CLAIMS/Patent CD by SilverPlatter Inc., APS by Micropatent, Inc., and CASSIS, produced by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The requirements and features of each product will be described, as well as the available options for searching, displaying, and printing. Finally, there will be a comparison of the four products in an effort to clarify which product would best suit your information needs and budget.
