Partnerships in Undergraduate Chemistry Education

Pages 89-97 | Published online: 20 Oct 2008

Summary

Chemistry literature has been taught at the University of Florida since the 1930s. By the late 1980s, formal instruction in chemical information retrieval skills began to be integrated into the undergraduate curriculum. In the Spring of 1996, the Chemistry Selector participated in web-based instruction for a general chemistry class, CHM2040. Working closely with the course instructor, she developed a web page of library resources with links to library instruction modules and a two-part library assignment. She also gave lectures in the different sections of the course and assisted students with their assignments in the library. The assignments were graded and the course was evaluated using web-based forms. Finally, the impact the course had on library staff, equipment, and resources is discussed.
