Virtual Seminars and Digital Filing Cabinets

Pages 115-129 | Published online: 20 Oct 2008

Summary

Current electronic journal efforts are concentrated on building new types of journals or converting printed journals to digital ones. Less attention is paid to designing environments where researchers and students can virtually interact in familiar ways with journal articles both new and old. This article details the desired features and needed capabilities of such an interactive environment and reports on preliminary work in this area done at the Yale University Sterling Chemistry Library.
