Abstract
In the spring of 2000, Owen Science and Engineering Library, Washington State University, undertook an evaluation of Blackwell's Collection Managerto replace all or part of their book approval program. The goal was to reduce the approval rate-of-return without adversely impacting collection development. Evaluation techniques were tailored to each librarian to accommodate a broad range of viewpoints. After a year and a half of evaluation the librarians chose to drop approval books and use Collection ManagerandeNotesto select and order monographs.
