Abstract

The Web sites of twenty-two university libraries supporting top-ranked graduate programs in computer science were examined. The objective was to identify frequently selected free Web resources in computer science and determine characteristics that such resources had in common. A total of 3,253 links were collected and analyzed. The most popular Web resources in computer science came from commercial entities, particularly publishers of electronic journals and, to a lesser extent, professional organizations and universities. Among the most well-represented domains were those sponsored by the Association of Computing Machinery, Springer-Verlag, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, MIT, the University of Washington, and the Institute of Physics.
