Partnering to Build a State Portal: MyCalifornia

SUMMARY

The Governor of California announced a completely redesigned, new state portal as part of his efforts to improve services to the public through a broad customer-centric eGovernment initiative. The California State Library was a core part of the subject content team and partnered with other agencies to develop in 120 days MyCalifornia http://my.ca.gov. This article explores: (1) the principles and objectives for the new portal; (2) the evolving role the California State Library had within this project; (3) the questions that a library should answer before undertaking such an effort; and (4) the benefits that such opportunities can bring.
