PART FOUR: WRITING THE SELF IN PERFORMANCE: FEMMES AND BUTCHES, DRAG QUEENS AND KINGS, VAMPIRES AND CLOWNS

Performing Butch/Femme Theory

Pages 187-199 | Published online: 22 Oct 2008

Abstract

This paper is a description of a performance workshop that is designed to give the language of the butch/femme theory a ride. Using theatre exercises and performance techniques that put the terms butch and femme onto the actions of the body, the writer hopes to encourage both an irreverence and a respect for the arbitrary nature of a language that attempts to define identity.
