SUMMARY
Life in the rural United States, isolated and surrounded by fundamentalists, drives one farmwoman to affirm her lesbianism and fulfill her desires, while writing a dissertation about West Texas farm-women, her friends and neighbors. By recognizing their anger and its causes, she must recognize her own and come to terms with it. In the midst of emotional turmoil about who she has been and who she might become, she accidentally gathers around her a small group of lesbians who are equally isolated, with similar radical ideas .
