Military Male Rape and the Development of Male Homophobia in Judaeo-Christian Culture

Pages 87-120 | Published online: 04 Oct 2008

ABSTRACT

Before Judaeo-Christian culture achieved global dominance, many other historic cultures adapted male bisexuality to enhance social relations. By contrast, Judaeo-Christian culture has disapproved of male homosexuality and insists that heterosexuality is the only acceptable male identity. Therefore, Judaeo-Christian culture's disapproval deviates from the historic cross-cultural norm that accepts bisexuality. Why the deviance? A review of history reveals how the defeat and rape of Judaeo-Christian culture's military men by its enemies induced homophobia, a cultural disorder. Homophobia impairs the development of normal bisexuality by pressuring the culture's males to adopt heterosexual or homosexual identities.
