Reflections on Hospital Library Services in Ambulatory Settings

Pages 19-27 | Received 15 Mar 2001, Accepted 08 Jun 2001, Published online: 11 Oct 2008

ABSTRACT

Clinicians observed in a study that included six ambulatory settings did not appear to be taking advantage of the hospital library services available to them. This article discusses four tentative explanations for this situation, using anecdotes from observation field notes to illustrate. The article suggests possible responses to the problems discussed and calls for further investigation of hospital library services provided in ambulatory settings.
