ABSTRACT

Along with the new federal regulations for health care providers within the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) come new job opportunities created by the demand for compliance. Achieving compliance in the area of privacy in health information will require an individual in each health care facility to take on the role of Privacy Officer. This role is consistent with many of the skills already practiced by Health Sciences Librarians and may provide a new career opportunity for health information entrepreneurs.
