Abstract
This article examines the role of the hospital librarian in organizing a Literature & Medicineprogram. Successfully running in many hospitals in Maine, Literature & Medicineis an innovative project in which healthcare workers come together to discuss fiction and nonfiction related to health, and discuss implications for their professions. The purposes of the project are detailed and participants' enthusiastic reviews of the experience are examined. Benefits for the librarian in managing this program are outlined along with details for organizing and funding the program. Literature & Medicineoffers a unique opportunity to librarians to promote literature and foster communication and understanding among coworkers.
