ABSTRACT

This article is intended as a basic guide to the Medical Librarian given the responsibility for creating and/or managing archival collections. It is meant to introduce briefly some concepts of archival management and ways for non-specialists to implement and manage an archival program in a healthcare setting. Subjects discussed include archival education, selection of materials, arrangement and description, preservation, and access to archival collections. Also included are three appendices offering: (A) a short list of reference works; (B) a sample archival arrangement scheme; and (C) a list of archival suppliers.
