Abstract

Since 1998, the Treadwell Library of the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) has participated in consumer health activities. In 2003, the library initiated and continues to lead MGH's Plain Language program. This article highlights how the library assumed this role and presents an overview of the principles and practices of plain language. The authors encourage other librarians to embrace opportunities to expand their roles in this arena.
