Abstract

The purpose of this quantitative study was to investigate the effect of Counselor Active Rehabilitation Service (CARS), compared to standard rehabilitation counseling in reducing feelings of hopelessness in individuals with substance abuse disorders. This study involved 50 inner city participants with substance abuse disorders. As determined using the Beck Hopelessness Scale, the experimental intervention did show a significant difference in the reduction of the feeling of hopelessness.
