ABSTRACT
This paper proposes a model for understanding normative trauma in the lives of lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) people. The model argues that the experiences of LGB people include a number of normative experiences of interpersonal trauma and loss. The paper explores several paradigms for interpersonal traumatization that might apply to the lives of LGB people. This paper then explores how the experience of normative interpersonal trauma and loss might impact the LGB survivor of Criterion A trauma. Issues of countertransference for both LGB and heterosexual therapists are explored.
