Abstract
Sociology has been curiously circumspect about matters relating to homosexuality. A review of three major journals in sociology revealed only three artciles on homosexuality in the period form 1977 to 1988 with virtually every ohter minority group receiving consideralbly more attention. While sociological societies are quite willing to take steps to counter racism in selecting conference sites, such steps are avoided with regard to heterosexism. Little effort has been made to extend legal civil rights protection to homosexuals. Sociology texts slight the subjust of homosexuality, ignoring many of the hitorical events which have had a profound effect on the sociological development of the gay and lesbian community and neglecting mention of any of the newer models of explanation of homosexual orientation.
