Abstract
The FIRO‐B profiles of 243 adolescents presenting themselves for treatment of chemical dependency in a residential setting was examined. Utilizing Ryan's (1977) typologies within each of the three domains tapped by this instrument the most common profiles were that of “loner,” “rebel,” and “pessimist.” These results are discussed in terms of practical treatment planning within both a psychological model and a model based on the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous/Narcotics Anonymous.
