Abstract

One, if not the most, frequently used measure of personality variables with drug and alcohol dependent adolescents is the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI). The MMPI is commonly used as a diagnostic indicator of chemical dependency using the MacAndrews subscale and as a screening device for psychopathology with youngsters admitted for drug and alcohol treatment. Most often, the MMPI is administered to adolescents immediately upon admission to a treatment program or, minimally, within the first 72 hours following admission. This study reviewed the applicability of MMPI usage with newly admitted chemically dependent adolescents to a treatment program examining the MMPI validation scales.
