Pages 229-240 | Published online: 25 Oct 2008

Abstract

This paper addresses the specific needs of a clearly delineated population of individuals who are finding difficulty adjusting to the irrevocable, but often unwanted, loss of a partner through separation or divorce. A description of an emotionally attached or ambivalent person is presented as well as the intrapsychic and interpersonal problems they experience which impede the cognitive, emotional and behavioral adjustments they must make. The group is discussed in terms of composition, goals, interventive strategies, and role of thc therapist.
