Abstract

In this tribute to Mary E. Richmond on the 125th anniversary of her birth, the writer demonstrates the relationship between her "cruelly hampered youth" and painful pre-prolessional life ex el i ences and their manifestations on her later contributions to the fierd b; social work. Examined are her encounters with poverty, loneliness, a need for human relationships and her insatiable thirst [or good literature.
