ABSTRACT
Cross-cultural contacts between child welfare practitioners and client families must be examined for sensitivity to race and ethnicity. However, these contacts also occur in the context of the differences in role and power inherent in involuntary transactions and often involve difficulties with use of drugs or alcohol. Using a case example, this article applies overlapping lenses to help understand this complicated context Each lens broadens the view and sharpens the focus on what is happening and how to act to help.
