Abstract
In recent years merger and acquisition activity has increased significantly in the United States. Such activity can be stressful for all employees, particularly those at mid-career. This article examines the stress potential of mergers and acquisitions, with a particular focus on the mid-career employee. It provides a framework for examining merger and acquisition stress and discusses four approaches for stress prevention and management: realistic merger and acquisition previews, individual counseling, merger and acquisition stress management training, and outplacement services.
