Self-Hypnosis and Problem Solving in the Treatment of Obesity

Pages 35-41 | Published online: 05 Nov 2010

Abstract

This paper presents a self-hypnosis treatment approach to obesity based on cognitive problem solving techniques. The approach focuses on the positive motivation of the individual. In effect, he or she learns to self monitor, problem solve and substitute healthy eating behaviors for unhealthy ones. While no claims are made for long term follow-up, in short term care, this approach appears useful in enabling the person to continue a weight control program independently with a minimum of therapeutic contact over a prolonged period.
