New Opportunities for Psychologists

Pages 3-12 | Published online: 11 Sep 2009

Abstract

Private practice opportunities for psychologists have traditionally existed primarily in large urban areas with large patient pools. Little has been written concerning the current atmosphere for psychologists working on a fee for service basis in small towns. The following discussion reviews current attitudes and needs of people residing in small town America and presents a model for successful practice in this increasingly desirable environment. Advantages to small town practice are discusscd and pitfalls in developing a new practice are included.
