Clouded Horizons

One Perspective of Poverty

Abstract

A framework constructed from elements of Bronfenbrenner's ecology of human development theory and a social learning approach to object-relations theory is proposed to provide a systematic way of exploring the experiential world of the lower socioeconomic status psychotherapy patient. Following this framework, the association between victimization and powerlessness is explored in relation to conceptions of reality that are often held by lower status individuals, which tends to constrict their available life choices.
