Abstract
Clinical trials are required for the testing of new treatments and can be a valuable component in the treatment of patients suffering from many types of diseases. A number of barriers, including those by the physician or the patients themselves, limit patient participation. The Internet has begun changing the physician-patient relationship and the recent trend of clinical trial registers online may help eliminate barriers, provide greater information to patients, and further the development of valuable new treatments. Understanding the different national and international resources available can assist patients, clinicians, and librarians to identify the best resource for the situation.
