Abstract
Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer in American men other than skin cancer. The American Cancer Society estimates 230,900 new cases will be diagnosed in the year 2004. Prostate cancer is also a disease of aging, in which environmental factors such as nutrition play a role. Research on prostate cancer and the use of Chinese medicine is minimal. This column is the joint work of three individuals: a cancer nurse, a clinical dietitian, and an acupuncturist and Chinese Medicine practitioner. The authors undertook to review alternative medicine modalities for prostate cancer that are available on the Internet because they work with patients who have sought their help in finding such information. The Internet information site selections provide a starting place for those interested in complementary therapies for prostate cancer.
