Abstract
Information on human genes and genetic disorders is of interest to clinicians, researchers, students, and patients. Two open-access Web-based resources, Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM™) and GeneTests(™), provide authoritative up-to-date information, and should be considered as core electronic resources in virtually every medical library. OMIM is a catalog of review articles on human genes and genetic disorders, while GeneTests provides disease profiles and directory information for testing laboratories and clinics. Each resource contains a wealth of links to related information. Used in combination, OMIM and GeneTests serve as powerful tools to meet the genetics information needs of medical library clients.
